Patagonia involves long drives between towns. Plan your timing carefully and leave with plenty of margin, especially if you are driving from distant cities.

Winds

The area is known for its strong Patagonian winds, especially in spring and summer. Bear in mind that they can affect driving, particularly in tall vehicles or those towing a trailer.

Fuel

Gas stations are found only in towns. Fill your tank every chance you get and never set off on the road with less than half a tank.

Layered Clothing

Patagonian weather can change rapidly. We recommend dressing in layers: a thermal base layer, a mid-layer insulation, and a windproof outer shell. That way you are ready for any condition.

By air

The closest airport is the Perito Moreno Airport (PMQ), with regular flights from Buenos Aires (Aeroparque).

Alternative: fly to Comodoro Rivadavia (CRD) with Aerolíneas Argentinas or JetSmart. From there the Safari Patagonia team can coordinate the transfer to Perito Moreno.

From Chile — Balmaceda Airport

The Balmaceda Airport (BBA), near Coyhaique, is an excellent option for travelers arriving from Santiago or other Chilean cities. From Balmaceda, the Safari Patagonia team organizes private transfers to Perito Moreno.
